When demands outweigh resources for too long, stress can turn from a temporary state into a chronic struggle.

Stress & Burn Out

What is stress & burnout?

Burnout is more than just exhaustion - it’s a deep sense of depletion, detachment, and the feeling that you have nothing left to give.

Whether it stems from work, caregiving, emotional labour, or ongoing pressure to meet high expectations, burnout can quietly build over time. Many people push through until something gives - often their health, motivation, or relationships. You may feel guilty for slowing down, or unsure how to ask for help, especially if being capable and dependable has become part of your identity.

At The Knightsbridge Practice, we offer a supportive space to pause, reflect, and recalibrate. Therapy is not about doing more - it’s about doing differently, with care and intention.

Common signs of Stress & Burnout

  • Physical and emotional exhaustion

  • Irritability, anxiety, or a short fuse

  • Difficulty sleeping or switching off

  • Feeling numb, disengaged, or disconnected from purpose

  • Dreading tasks that once felt manageable

  • Reduced concentration or increased forgetfulness

  • Feeling like you’re never doing enough, despite doing too much

How therapy can help

Therapy provides a space to understand what’s fuelling the stress and to reconnect with your needs, values, and limits. Together, we work to restore balance and resilience in a way that’s both meaningful and sustainable. This may include:

  • Exploring the root causes of burnout, including perfectionism, people-pleasing, or unresolved trauma

  • Setting boundaries with compassion, both internally and in relationships

  • Identifying what restores you, and reintroducing moments of calm, pleasure, and rest

  • Developing tools to regulate stress, including breathwork, mindfulness, and nervous system support

  • Reconnecting with your sense of self, beyond roles, responsibilities, or productivity

Burnout is not a personal failure - it’s a sign that something needs care and attention. With support, it’s possible to move from survival mode into a more spacious and grounded way of being.
